| House of the Week: 112 Sylvan St., Elbridge |
The backdrop for this charming Cape Cod-style house in the Village of Elbridge is a quiet wooded cul de sac surrounded by mature trees. The house is located on 112 Sylvan St. off Route 5 and South Street, one mile from the four corners in Elbridge.
“We have such great memories of this house. It was a beautiful setting in the summer time, and my father had all of us for his famous chicken barbecues,” said Connie Moore of Fayetteville. Her Father was the late John Fallon.
Built in 1983 by Duane Wise, the home could easily accommodate a family or empty nesters with lots of storage space, a master bedroom suite and laundry room on the first floor, and a Jack-and-Jill connecting bathroom on the second floor. The living room features wall-to-wall beige carpeting and paned windows, which nearly touch the floor. The dining room lends itself to entertaining with paned atrium doors, which open to a stone patio and backyard.
A natural stone fence in the backyard gracefully marks the property line. The dining room is decorated with a rose floral wallpaper, outlined with white chair rail moulding and a yellow paint hue underneath. The formal eating area is detailed with an oak parquet floor and illuminated by a chandelier. The oak parquet floor continues in the kitchen, equipped with an eat-in breakfast area. The kitchen has a variety of white painted oak cabinets, including a tall pantry with lots of shelving. A floral wallpaper border adds a dash of color to the room.
Appliances include a black Kenmore electric range and Hot Point dishwasher. Pocket doors open to the first-floor laundry room and half bath, equipped with a brick patterned linoleum floor. Another door leads to the two-car side-load garage. Sunlight comes into the master bedroom through two more long paned windows, which mirror those in the living room.
The bedroom has wall-to-wall beige carpeting and a walk-in closet. The master bath features a white painted oak vanity, Fiberglass shower, neutral vinyl floor and a natural stained wainscot. The hallway on the second floor contains a built-in desk for a computer station and a large utility closet. The two upstairs bedrooms are connected to a full bathroom, with access through pocket doors. The full bath is equipped with an oak vanity with a cream-colored laminate countertop, Fiberglass tub and shower and a neutral-colored vinyl floor. The two other bedrooms have wall-to-wall gold toned carpeting and storage closets. One of the closets is equipped with floor-to-ceiling shelves. A door near the staircase opens to a larger unfinished room with a vaulted ceiling. The room could become finished living space.
